About

Julia’s deep ties to the Miami Valley, her track record of strong leadership, and her devotion to serving the community make her the best candidate to protect the rights of the citizens of Montgomery County.

Julia Mauk was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. A proud Dayton Flyer, she graduated from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and then went on to complete her Juris Doctorate at UD’s School of Law. Julia has spent the majority of her 15 year legal career at the Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office. Prior to that, she was an Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellow at Legal Aid of Western Ohio.

During her time with the Montgomery County Public Defender, Julia practiced in both the felony and misdemeanor divisions, handling cases at all points from arraignment through jury trial. In addition to being a trial attorney, she was the Misdemeanor Division Manager for 6 years. Julia now serves as the Administrative Manager, overseeing attorney training and development, investigations, administrative support, and office growth and expansion. One of Julia’s most formative experiences has been serving as the defense attorney assigned to the Dayton Regional Mental Health Court Docket. The focus of this court is to provide an intensive and supportive probationary program that helps those with underlying mental health diagnoses find support and stability, reducing the likelihood of recidivism.

Since her time at Chaminade Julienne High School, Julia has dedicated her free time to serving others, beginning as a volunteer at Grandview Medical Center when she was 16 years old. Since then, she has coached youth soccer and basketball, been a Girl Scout leader, volunteered as a cabinet parent for the Centerville Jazz Band, and served on boards for Dayton Ballet Barre, House of Bread, and the Dayton Bar Association. Currently, Julia serves on the Boonshoft Associate Board and the Dayton Bar Association Grievance Committee, and she is the board secretary for Rainbow Elder Care.

Julia enjoys spending her free time with her husband, Patrick, and three children, Athena, Henry, and Eliza. She loves to cook from scratch, read, travel, and stays active by dancing with McGovern Irish Dance.
